You found a good price, you booked, and at the counter you are told you are too young for that car, or that a young driver fee applies. It happens often in Morocco, because the age rule is not the same at every agency and is rarely written in large letters. Here is how it actually works.

The short answer

21 is the usual minimum age for a standard car in Morocco.
Premium, sport and large SUV categories usually start at 25.
Many agencies add a young driver fee between 21 and 24.
Most agencies also want you to have held your licence for at least one year, sometimes two.
There is often an upper limit too, commonly around 70 to 75, so older drivers should check before booking.

Why the rule exists

It is an insurance rule, not a Moroccan traffic law. The insurer prices the risk by age and by car category, and the agency passes that on. This is why a 22 year old can rent a small city car but not a large SUV, and why a fee sometimes appears only at pickup.

The age rules at Bandy's Cars

What an agency will ask for at pickup

Your passport or national ID card.
Your driving licence, the original, not a photo.
A payment method: with us, a debit card or cash is enough, no credit card needed.
The name on the booking must match the main driver's licence.

If a second person will drive, add them as an additional driver on the contract. An unlisted driver at the wheel usually voids the insurance.

Young driver fees: what to check before you pay

Ask these four questions in writing, by email or in chat:

Is there a young driver fee for my age, and how much per day?
Is it capped per rental, or charged for every day?
Which categories am I allowed to book at my age?
Does the deposit change because of my age?

Under 21: what are your options?

Let an older driver book and be the main driver, with you added as an additional driver if you meet the age rule for that category.
Trains and grands taxis cover the main routes between cities well.
Private drivers exist for day trips, but that is a different service and a different budget.

Over 70: what to expect

Most agencies still rent, sometimes with an upper limit and a medical validity check on the licence. Ask before you book, and expect the same rules on insurance and deposit as any other driver.
